Through the use of both Active Tags (powered by battery and active up to a couple of hundred meters) and Passive Tags (Powered by the Reader’s Radio Wave Energy) Tags can be read-only or read/write depending on tag design and application. They are widely used in identification badges, replacing magnetic strip badges allowing access and control without having to physically scan the badge at a reader. It can also be used for vehicle access control with remote readers, those allowing vehicles to pass control pointes without stopping, or entering access codes for access. The use of tags helps in record keeping by recording and documenting intended data as it relates to the card, the reader and application to which the tags or employed.
