Safety
Inmarsat is the satellite communications backbone of GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) Since its inception by IMO (International Maritime Organization) Inmarsat has been the underlying reliable satellite safety communication network to the global maritime community.
It enables vessels equipped with GMDSS-compliant Inmarsat terminals to quickly send a distress alert through a Dedicated Distress Button (DDB). Once pressed, the highest priority is granted the alert and is automatically routed to the appropriate on-shore Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Center (MRCC). Vessels also have the option to send detailed distress messages, which are also prioritized.
Inmarsat C
The Inmarsat-C system provides data messaging services through the use of small lightweight terminals. These units come in fixed, mobile, transportable, maritime and aeronautical configurations. All configurations employ omni-directional antennas.
Inmarsat-C supports tow-way text and data messaging, data-reporting and fleet broadcast communications at a data rate of 600 bits/sec.
GMDSS compliance. Inmarsat-C is a cost-effective solution for vessels over 300 gross tons which must comply with the International Maritime Organization’s Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) requirements.

Inmarsat Fleet F77, service providing the high quality and speed of a full 64 kbit/s Mobile ISDN service and the flexibility of the Inmarsat Mobile Packet Data Service, where users are charged for the amount of information sent and received rather than the time for which they are connected.

Inmarsat Fleet F77 is also equipped to meet the latest distress and safety specifications of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). Through 4-stage voice pre-emption and prioritization, Inmarsat Fleet F77 supports the accreditation of vessels' systems and ensures high priority distress and safety needs are met.
