IP (Internet Protocol) A communications protocol for computers connected to a network or networks. Especially for those connected to the internet. It specifies the format for address and units of transmitted data and rules for the exchange of messages utilizing the Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) in which messages are exchanged as data packets.
